What is Caverject primarily used for?
Caverject is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men by helping them achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse when other treatments are unsuitable or ineffective.

We provide Caverject as a targeted injectable solution containing alprostadil, a synthetic form of prostaglandin E1, specifically approved for men who experience difficulty getting or keeping an erection due to physical, psychological, or mixed causes.
It works locally in the penis rather than systemically, making it effective even in cases where oral medications fail, such as after prostate surgery, diabetes-related nerve damage, or vascular issues.
Many men choose Caverject when they need a reliable on-demand option that does not depend on timing with meals, alcohol, or natural arousal processes.
It is commonly prescribed or sought for vasculogenic ED, neurogenic ED (e.g., from spinal cord injury), psychogenic ED, or ED caused by a combination of factors.
Caverject offers an alternative for men who cannot take PDE5 inhibitors (like sildenafil) due to contraindications, side effects, or lack of response.
The treatment produces a predictable erection in most users when dosed correctly, supporting spontaneous sexual activity without daily medication.
We ensure discreet access to this clinically proven ED therapy so men can regain confidence and intimacy without unnecessary hurdles.

How does Caverject produce an erection?
Caverject produces an erection by directly relaxing the smooth muscle tissue in the penis and dilating blood vessels, which allows increased blood flow into the erectile chambers (corpora cavernosa) to create and sustain rigidity.

The active ingredient, alprostadil, mimics natural prostaglandin E1 to activate specific receptors that reduce intracellular calcium, leading to smooth muscle relaxation in the trabeculae of the penis.
This relaxation opens up sinusoidal spaces, permitting rapid inflow of arterial blood while trapping it by compressing venous outflow, resulting in a firm erection.
Unlike oral ED drugs that enhance natural signals, Caverject acts independently of nerve stimulation or sexual arousal, making it suitable for men with nerve-related ED.
The effect begins locally at the injection site and spreads throughout the corpora cavernosa, producing a consistent response within minutes.
Proper injection technique into the correct area ensures even distribution, maximizing blood engorgement for a natural-feeling erection.
The process bypasses systemic circulation initially, minimizing widespread side effects compared to pills, though local effects like mild pain can occur.
We supply Caverject with clear guidance so users understand exactly how this direct mechanism delivers reliable results for satisfying intercourse.

How soon after injection does an erection occur?
An erection typically occurs within 5 to 20 minutes after a properly administered Caverject injection, with most men experiencing onset between 5 and 15 minutes depending on individual response and dose.

The rapid onset happens because alprostadil works directly on penile tissue without needing absorption through the digestive system or liver metabolism.
Factors like correct injection depth, site location (lateral mid-shaft), and individualized dosing influence how quickly rigidity develops.
In clinical use, about 80-90% of men achieve an erection suitable for intercourse within this 5-20 minute window when titrated to the effective dose.
Anxiety or first-time use can slightly delay response, while experienced users often notice faster and more consistent timing.
We emphasize starting with lower test doses under guidance to identify each person’s personal onset time safely.
The quick action supports planned intimacy without long waiting periods, offering convenience over some other ED treatments.
Tracking your own response helps optimize future use, and our support ensures you feel confident timing injections correctly.

How long does the erection from Caverject usually last?
The erection from Caverject usually lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour with proper dosing, though duration varies by individual dose, health factors, and technique; the goal is an erection adequate for intercourse without exceeding 1 hour to minimize risks.

Optimal dosing aims for an erection that persists long enough for satisfactory sexual activity, typically 30–60 minutes in most responders.
Higher doses can extend duration but increase the chance of prolonged erection (priapism), so titration to the lowest effective amount is recommended.
The erection naturally subsides as alprostadil is metabolized locally and systemically, usually within 1–2 hours after injection.
Cold temperature, stress, or improper injection can shorten duration, while warmth and relaxation often help maintain it longer.
If the erection persists beyond 4 hours, immediate medical attention is required to prevent tissue damage from priapism.
We provide information to help users recognize normal versus extended durations and respond appropriately if needed.
Most men report consistent, manageable durations once their ideal dose is established through careful adjustment.

What is the typical starting dose for most men?
The typical starting dose for most men using Caverject is 2.5 micrograms (mcg) for vasculogenic, psychogenic, or mixed-cause erectile dysfunction, with adjustments made upward in small increments to find the lowest effective dose that produces a firm erection lasting under 1 hour.

For men with purely neurogenic ED (e.g., post-prostatectomy or spinal cord injury), the starting dose is often lower, around 1.25–2.5 mcg, due to increased sensitivity.
Dosing begins conservatively to minimize side effects like pain or prolonged erection while establishing individual responsiveness.
Increments of 2.5–5 mcg are common during dose titration, usually performed under medical supervision or with clear self-titration instructions.
The effective dose range for most men falls between 5–20 mcg, though some require up to 40 mcg depending on severity and response.
Never exceed the maximum recommended single dose (typically 60 mcg) or frequency (3 times per week) to avoid complications.
We supply Caverject in standard vial strengths (20 mcg and 40 mcg) that allow accurate reconstitution and dosing with provided syringes.
Regular follow-up and dose review ensure long-term safety and continued effectiveness for ongoing use.

Are there differences in dosing for neurogenic ED?
Yes, there are differences in dosing for neurogenic ED; patients with purely neurogenic erectile dysfunction (such as from spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, or post-radical prostatectomy nerve damage) typically start with a lower dose of 1.25–2.5 mcg due to increased penile sensitivity and higher risk of prolonged erection.

Neurogenic ED often requires lower starting doses because damaged nerves reduce the natural threshold for erection, making the tissue more responsive to alprostadil.
A common initial dose for neurogenic cases is 1.25 mcg, with slow upward titration in 1.25–2.5 mcg increments to avoid priapism or excessive pain.
In contrast, vasculogenic or mixed ED usually starts at 2.5 mcg, as these patients often need higher amounts to overcome vascular resistance.
Lower dosing in neurogenic ED helps achieve a therapeutic erection while minimizing side effects like prolonged rigidity, which is more common in this group.
Titration remains individualized, with most neurogenic patients finding an effective dose between 2.5–10 mcg once adjusted properly.
We supply Caverject in strengths that support precise low-dose reconstitution for safer initiation in sensitive cases.
Regular monitoring during early use is especially important for neurogenic ED to ensure safety and optimize long-term results.

What needle size is commonly recommended?
The commonly recommended needle size for Caverject injections is 29-gauge or 30-gauge with a half-inch (12.7 mm) length, providing a balance of comfort, minimal tissue trauma, and reliable delivery into the correct depth of the corpora cavernosa.

A 30-gauge needle is ultra-fine and preferred by many users for reduced pain and less noticeable insertion during self-injection.
The half-inch length ensures the medication reaches the erectile tissue without penetrating too deeply into the urethra or too shallowly into the skin.
29-gauge needles are slightly thicker but still very fine, offering easier flow for reconstitution volumes while remaining comfortable.
Shorter needles (e.g., 5/16 inch) may be used in some cases but can risk inconsistent delivery if not placed precisely.
Proper needle choice reduces bruising, bleeding, and discomfort at the injection site, improving user compliance.
We include compatible needles or guidance on sourcing the right size to make administration straightforward and less intimidating.
Users often report that finer gauges (29–30) make the process feel more discreet and manageable over time.

Where exactly is the injection administered?
Caverject is administered by injecting into the side (lateral aspect) of the penis, specifically in the proximal third (closer to the base), alternating sides with each use to prevent scar tissue buildup and ensure even distribution.

The injection targets the corpora cavernosa, the two spongy chambers running along the length of the penis that fill with blood during erection.
Preferred sites are the 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock positions when viewing the penis from above (with the urethra at the 6 o'clock position), avoiding the top (dorsal) or underside (ventral) where major blood vessels and the urethra are located.
The proximal third (about one-third from the base toward the tip) allows better absorption and reduces risk of hitting the glans or urethra.
Alternating left and right sides each time minimizes localized fibrosis or plaque formation from repeated injections in the same spot.
The injection is done at a 90-degree angle to the skin after pinching or stretching the area slightly for easier access.
Correct placement ensures the medication spreads evenly throughout both corpora cavernosa for a balanced, firm erection.
We provide clear anatomical guidance and diagrams (when available) to help users identify safe, effective injection sites confidently.

What should be done if an erection lasts too long?
If an erection from Caverject lasts longer than 4 hours (a condition called priapism), seek immediate medical attention at an emergency room or urologist to prevent permanent penile tissue damage; do not wait, as prolonged rigidity can lead to ischemia and fibrosis.

Priapism is a medical emergency; erections exceeding 4 hours reduce oxygen supply to penile tissue, risking irreversible injury even if painless.
Initial at-home steps may include applying ice packs, gentle walking, urination, or cold showers to encourage detumescence, but these are not substitutes for professional care.
If the erection persists beyond 3–4 hours, contact a healthcare provider urgently or go to the nearest emergency department.
In medical settings, treatment may involve aspiration of blood from the corpora, injection of alpha-adrenergic agents (e.g., phenylephrine), or surgical intervention in severe cases.
Preventing priapism starts with proper low-dose titration, never exceeding the recommended frequency (3 times/week), and following exact instructions.
Users should be aware of warning signs like an erection that feels unusually rigid or painful and act quickly.
We stress the importance of understanding priapism risks upfront so every user knows exactly when and how to respond if duration becomes concerning.

Is penile pain a frequent experience?
Yes, penile pain is a frequent experience with Caverject; mild to moderate pain at the injection site or during the erection is the most commonly reported side effect, occurring in up to 30–50% of users, though it often decreases with continued use and proper technique.

Pain typically feels like a burning, aching, or throbbing sensation localized to the injection area or throughout the penis during tumescence.
Injection-site pain is usually brief and related to needle insertion, solution pH, or rapid tissue expansion from blood inflow.
Many users describe the pain as tolerable and short-lived, especially after the first few injections as the body adjusts.
Factors increasing pain include higher doses, improper reconstitution (e.g., too concentrated), cold medication, or incorrect injection depth.
Pain often lessens over time with consistent use, correct dosing, and warming the solution slightly before injection.
We recommend starting low and slow to minimize discomfort while building tolerance and confidence in the process.
If pain becomes severe or persistent, users should consult a provider to adjust dose, technique, or consider adjunct measures for relief.

Can bruising or bleeding occur at the site?
Yes, bruising or bleeding at the injection site can occur with Caverject; these are common minor side effects reported by many users, usually appearing as small spots of blood, mild hematoma, or temporary discoloration that resolve quickly without intervention.

Bleeding often happens immediately after needle withdrawal due to the rich vascular supply in the penile tissue and may be more noticeable if a small vessel is nicked.
Bruising (ecchymosis) typically develops over hours to a day as a purple or blue mark and fades within 3–7 days in most cases.
Applying gentle pressure for 1–2 minutes immediately after injection significantly reduces the likelihood and severity of bleeding or bruising.
Using finer needles (29–30 gauge), proper technique, and avoiding repeated injections in the exact same spot help minimize these issues.
Factors like higher doses, blood-thinning medications, or thin skin can increase the chance of visible marks.
These effects are generally cosmetic and do not affect the medication’s efficacy or long-term penile health.
We advise users on simple post-injection care steps to keep bruising minimal and ensure a comfortable experience.

What are rarer but serious risks?
Rarer but serious risks of Caverject include priapism (prolonged erection lasting over 4 hours), penile fibrosis (development of scar tissue or plaques leading to curvature or deformity), and in very rare cases, systemic effects or allergic reactions; these require prompt attention to prevent permanent damage.

Priapism is the most critical risk, occurring in about 1–4% of users, and demands immediate medical intervention to restore normal blood flow and avoid tissue necrosis.
Penile fibrosis or Peyronie’s-like plaques can develop with long-term frequent use, especially if injections are not alternated or dosing is consistently too high, potentially causing curvature or shortening over time.
Injection-site infections are extremely rare but possible if hygiene is poor during preparation or administration.
Systemic absorption can occasionally lead to mild hypotension, dizziness, or back pain, though these are uncommon due to the local action of alprostadil.
Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, or anaphylaxis) are very rare but require stopping use and seeking care if symptoms appear.
Regular self-examination and periodic medical check-ups help detect early signs of fibrosis or other changes.
We emphasize safe dosing, rotation of sites, and awareness of warning signs so users can use Caverject responsibly and minimize these uncommon but important risks.

How often can Caverject be safely used?
Caverject can be safely used no more than three times per week, with at least 24 hours between any two injections, to reduce the risk of priapism, penile fibrosis, tissue trauma, and tolerance development while allowing adequate recovery time for penile tissue.

The three-times-per-week limit is a standard guideline from clinical studies and prescribing information to balance efficacy with long-term safety.
Spacing injections by at least 24 hours prevents cumulative irritation, excessive smooth muscle fatigue, and buildup of alprostadil effects.
Overuse beyond this frequency increases the likelihood of serious complications like prolonged erections or scar tissue formation.
Many users find that 1–2 times per week is sufficient for satisfying sexual activity once an effective dose is established.
Adhering to the limit also helps maintain consistent response quality without the body becoming less sensitive over time.
We remind users to track their usage schedule carefully to stay within safe parameters and enjoy reliable results.
If more frequent use seems necessary, a healthcare provider should be consulted to explore adjustments or alternative approaches.

Does Caverject work for all types of ED?
Caverject works for many types of erectile dysfunction, including vasculogenic, neurogenic, psychogenic, and mixed-cause ED, often succeeding where oral medications fail, though it may be less effective or require higher doses in severe cases of advanced vascular disease or complete nerve loss.

It is particularly effective for vasculogenic ED (poor blood flow from diabetes, hypertension, or atherosclerosis) because it acts directly on penile smooth muscle and vessels.
Neurogenic ED (from spinal cord injury, prostate surgery, or neuropathy) responds well in most cases due to the medication bypassing damaged nerves.
Psychogenic ED benefits when performance anxiety or psychological barriers prevent natural erections, as Caverject produces an erection independently of mental arousal.
Mixed ED (combination of physical and psychological factors) is one of the most common indications and typically shows strong response rates.
In severe end-stage vascular disease or complete penile arterial occlusion, response may be partial or absent, requiring evaluation for other options.
Clinical success rates are high (70–90% in properly selected patients) across these categories when dosing is individualized.
We offer Caverject as a versatile, locally acting solution that helps a broad range of men regain functional erections.

What follow-up is advised during use?
Regular follow-up every 3–6 months is advised during ongoing Caverject use to monitor efficacy, adjust dosing if needed, check for side effects like fibrosis or curvature, ensure proper injection technique, and confirm overall penile health and safety.

Initial follow-up (after dose titration) within the first 1–3 months helps confirm the optimal dose and technique while addressing early side effects.
Periodic examinations allow detection of subtle changes such as plaque formation, curvature, or reduced responsiveness before they become significant.
Reviewing usage frequency, pain levels, erection quality, and satisfaction ensures the treatment remains appropriate and effective long-term.
Blood pressure checks or basic labs may be recommended if systemic side effects occur, though rare with local administration.
Technique review prevents complications from poor site selection, depth, or hygiene that could accumulate over time.
Follow-up also provides an opportunity to discuss any new health conditions or medications that might interact or affect response.
We encourage consistent monitoring so users maintain confidence, safety, and the best possible outcomes with continued Caverject therapy.
